Playgrounds:

“Playgrounds” is a body of three, 44x60 to 66x60 inch, mixed media, works on Rives BFK, that feature girls within ominous environments of overly saturated, clustered linework and webbing reminiscent of childhood playgrounds. Finding familiarity and security in these settings their collective strength allows them to defend each other figuratively and literally. The palettes are inspired by vibrant rainbow hues and oversaturated pinks commonly marketed to young girls, intending to create inviting and bold colors that may be overwhelming to outsiders yet comforting to the figures. “Playgrounds” serves to critique society's tendency to promote feminine branding for young girls, only to mock associated elements later. Despite societal expectations, the figures embrace and enjoy the "feminine and cute" aspects of their environment, fitting seamlessly into these “menacing and chaotic” perceived atmospheres.
